Goody has been a cornerstone of my career development for the past eight years. His willingness to share his deep knowledge of throwing, receiving, and blocking has been truly transformative. He doesn't just answer questions; he emphasizes making me the best player possible. Goody's expertise in catching is especially notable, as he works tirelessly to solve any issues and pushes his catchers to reach their full potential.
I’ve worked alongside Tyler for about seven years, and his influence has been massive. The most impressive thing about his coaching is how his philosophy is so easily transferable to game situations. He's not just teaching a single, rigid method. Unlike so many others, Tyler equips you with a wide range of movements, positions, and tools, transforming you into a more complete catcher. His emphasis on relationships is also unique; he genuinely cares about people more than most in the industry. It's clear to me that he's one of the best, if not the very best, in the business.
Tyler is truly a one-of-a-kind catching instructor. I've worked with him for 10 years, and in that time, he has not only shaped me into a better catcher and hitter but has also helped me with the mental side of the game. As a player, it's easy to get caught up in the pressures of the game, but Tyler has helped me work through those moments with his encouragement and praise. He genuinely wants the best for all his players and will do whatever it takes to help you become the best player you can be.
Working with Goodro has completely changed my career. His guidance and training helped me transform from a soft-singles hitter into one who hits for gap-to-gap power. My success can be directly attributed to his dedicated work and focused teaching.
He's always in his players' corner, ready to offer advice whenever it's needed, and he's constantly learning new and better training methods. Goodro is one of the best of the best.
My work with Goody has transformed me as a player, fundamentally changing my approach to both hitting and catching. The physical and mental improvements are thanks to him. I first reached out to him as a high school sophomore, and his feedback made so much sense that I knew right away I could trust him. Since then, he's been a key part of my offseason training. What truly sets him apart is his accessibility. I can text him anytime for feedback, and he’ll respond with complete honesty and a full video breakdown. That level of dedication is rare among coaches and has been a huge factor in my development.
Coach Goodro has been a constant presence in my baseball career since I was 10 years old. He's helped me with every aspect of the game—my swing, my catching, and even my mental approach. Thanks to him, I've been able to take my game to the next level, and I can't thank him enough for everything he's done and continues to do for me.
"I've been training with Tyler for almost five years, both remotely and in person. While remote training can sometimes be a challenge, what sets him apart is his ability to articulate his message in a way that's perfect for me. I'm truly grateful for our time together and for the connection we've built."
My son has trained with Tyler at the Field General Academy for the past 7 years, and the improvement in his catching skills has been incredible. Tyler runs high-energy sessions where players get a ton of quality reps every time. The drills are dynamic, keeping everyone engaged and moving which makes the training both productive and fun.
What sets Tyler apart is how well he connects with his players. He explains not just how to do each drill, but why it matters and how it translates into real game situations. That level of detail has helped my son understand the position at a much deeper level.
Tyler's dedication to his craft is unmatched. He's constantly studying the game and the position, keeping up with the latest trends, and refining his training methods. The result is a program that's proven, modern and designed to help catchers succeed both behind the plate and as leaders on the field.
I highly recommend the Field General Academy to any catcher who wants to take their game to the next level.
Tyler's impact on my son's baseball career is undeniable. He's been training with Tyler for eight years, and the results speak for themselves. Beyond the technical skills, Tyler built a strong connection with him, instilling confidence and a passion for the game that ultimately led to a college scholarship. Even in his first few practices at college, his coaches have already noticed his preparedness and positive attitude, which is a testament to Tyler's incredible coaching and mentorship. We couldn't be more grateful for his guidance.

With over 20 years of experience in baseball, Tyler Goodro has shaped the skills of thousands of athletes, from youth leagues to the collegiate and professional levels. His deep expertise comes from a diverse background that includes coaching, scouting, and five seasons in professional baseball. Tyler's professional journey includes time as an Area Associate Scout for the Philadelphia Phillies and Minnesota Twins, covering Eastern Nebraska and Western Iowa. He has also served as a coach at the independent professional and Division I levels.
A talented athlete from the start, Tyler earned First Team All-Nebraska honors as both a junior and senior at Creighton Prep. His game-winning RBI secured the school’s 8th State Championship in 2004 at Rosenblatt Stadium. Highly recruited, he chose the University of Arkansas-Fayetteville, where his brief but foundational tenure laid the groundwork for his instructional career.
Tyler continued his success at Butler Community College, where he played a key role in their Region VI Championship. As a catcher, he guided the team to a one-hit shutout, earning them a trip to the NJCAA World Series. He was a force at the plate, earning All-Tournament Honorable Mention with an impressive .461 batting average as Butler finished 6th nationally. He then moved on to the University of Cincinnati, contributing to teams that set regular-season records for wins, batting average, and home runs, ultimately finishing as Big East runners-up.
During his five-year professional career, Tyler gained invaluable experience, playing for two World Series-winning managers and catching numerous pitchers who went on to the major leagues.
Recognizing his passion for coaching while still playing professionally, Tyler began his coaching career early. He was part of several high school coaching staffs that won state championships, coached travel baseball, and served as the bullpen coach for the Lincoln Saltdogs in 2023. He was also an assistant coach for the University of Nebraska-Omaha in 2024, contributing to a Coaching Staff of the Year honor.
Tyler's passion for developing players, particularly catchers, led him to found the Field General Academy in 2016. He has since built it into one of the top catching programs in the Midwest, training over 300 catchers each year.
